MIAMI — A 19-year-old Fort Lauderdale woman has been arrested in connection with a violent robbery that took place earlier this year at a JD Sports store in Miami, authorities said.
According to an arrest affidavit, Kennedy Johnson was identified as one of three suspects accused of stealing Nike merchandise and attacking a store employee during the March 14 incident at JD Sports, located at 3801 NW Seventh Street.
Investigators said Johnson, along with Sherdenn Hanna Grant, 20, and Tramyah Cache Smith, 28, entered the store, grabbed several Nike hoodies and pants, and tried to leave without paying.
When employees attempted to lock the doors, police said Johnson and Grant kicked the merchandise manager multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Authorities said the suspects escaped in a black BMW SUV, which was later captured on surveillance video leaving Centro City Plaza.
Detectives from the Miami Police Tactical Robbery Unit used facial recognition technology and additional footage to identify all three suspects. Both the store manager and a witness later confirmed the identifications in photo lineups.
Police in Fort Lauderdale later stopped two of the suspects in the same BMW, where they recovered new Nike clothing matching the stolen items, according to the report.
Jail records show Johnson is charged with strongarm robbery and was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Wednesday afternoon. She also had an out-of-county warrant for her arrest.
Details regarding Grant and Smith’s booking information and charges have not yet been released.
