2 Coast Guard members recently arrested in Miami-Dade

MIAMI — Authorities recently arrested two members of the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast District in separate incidents in Miami-Dade County.

Police arrested U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Alain Carvajal, 25, of Coast Guard Station Miami Beach on Dec. 19 at the Homestead Police Department.

Officers accused Carvajal of a domestic violence incident that occurred Dec. 15 in Homestead. He faces charges of false imprisonment and battery.

According to an arrest report, the victim, who is married to Carvajal, told police he arrived home in an aggressive state, yelled insults and later grabbed her in a bear hug.

Carvajal appeared in court on Dec. 20, where a bond court judge ordered him to have no contact with the victim. Court records show his arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 17 before Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Carlos Gamez.

In a separate case, police arrested Bryan Dufault, 32, another Coast Guard member, following a motorcycle crash on Dec. 20 at Southwest Fifth Street and Third Avenue in Miami.

Officers said Dufault was riding a motorcycle when he crashed into a Mustang while under the influence. He faces charges of DUI and DUI with property damage.

A Coast Guard spokesperson confirmed both Carvajal and Dufault are employed by the agency and said both cases remain under investigation.
