4 arrested in Indiana, accused in ATM theft ring across Illinois, Michigan

Four men have been taken into custody in connection with a series of ATM thefts spanning Illinois and Michigan, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the group used a master key that allowed them to bypass alarms and electronic security features on the machines. The investigation began after police in Pontiac, Illinois, alerted deputies to two suspicious vehicles tied to the thefts.

Two suspects were arrested near State Road 45 and Leonard Springs Road in Bloomington. A second vehicle was later stopped in Morgan County by an Indiana State Police trooper, who arrested the remaining two men.

Authorities said Monday it is still unclear how the suspects obtained the master ATM key.
