Murder Trial Underway for Homestead Woman Who Became Pregnant in Jail

MIAMI — The murder trial of Daisy Link, a 30-year-old Homestead woman, began Wednesday, with testimony concluding on the first day. Link is accused of shooting and killing her on-and-off partner, Pedro Jimenez. She gained attention in 2024 after becoming pregnant while in jail.

Some of the most compelling evidence came from Link’s own words, captured on 911 audio and police body camera footage.

In recordings from the early morning of June 25, 2022, a Homestead police sergeant responded to a call about a man bleeding. Link, then 27, can be heard screaming,

“No! No! No! Pedro, please! Back up!”

Moments after firing the single shot that killed Jimenez, who fathered two of her children, she told a 911 dispatcher,

“Hello? What happened? No! He said he doesn’t know!”

Prosecutor Jared Octala told jurors,

“In a fit of rage, she pulled the gun, pointed it at the victim, and the facts will show that when she did that, he had turned around and was running away in fear.”

Both sides agreed that the couple’s relationship was turbulent.

“There were arguments, anger and even jealousy,” Octala said.
“This relationship was a toxic relationship,” defense attorney Ayuban Tomas countered.

The defense described Jimenez as abusive, claiming he pistol-whipped Link five days before the shooting, and argued that she fired the gun out of fear for her life.

“The evidence will show the victim was out of control. He was unhinged, and he was dangerous,” Tomas said. “She fired a shot to get him to go away.”

Homestead Police Sgt. Trayvon Nicholson testified that Link appeared frantic and confused at the scene.

“She was screaming. I believe she stated, ‘What happened?’ asking him what happened,” Nicholson said.

Prosecutors noted that surveillance footage captured Link saying something else moments after the shooting:

“(Unintelligible) major artery. You’ll be fine.”

While Link made headlines last year after becoming pregnant by another inmate at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, jurors are not expected to hear those details during the trial.

Link faces second-degree murder charges. The trial is set to continue Thursday.
