MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 32-year-old man faces attempted murder charges after authorities said he sparked a gunfight following a youth football game in the unincorporated Goulds area.
The suspect, Deandreya Shepherd of Homestead, was arrested early Friday by Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies. Officials said the dispute was over a woman.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. Wednesday at JL and Enid Demps Park, located at 11350 SW 216th St. Shepherd reportedly confronted another man at the park and displayed a pistol in his waistband.
According to the arrest report, when the woman involved told Shepherd, “You’re not even supposed to be here,” he allegedly replied, “Who’s gonna stop me?” before firing multiple rounds at the other man and the woman. The second man reportedly took cover behind a tree before returning fire.
Deputies recovered 18 rounds at the scene, but no injuries were reported. Shepherd left in his girlfriend’s car but was later pulled over near her home the following day.
During questioning, Shepherd allegedly claimed he was at the football game but never possessed or fired a gun.
He was arrested around 3 a.m. Friday at MDSO’s Cutler Bay station. In addition to attempted murder, Shepherd faces charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
As of Friday afternoon, Shepherd was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
