North Platte, NE – A strong cold front moving through the Central Plains is expected to bring the season’s first widespread freeze late Saturday night into Sunday morning, prompting Freeze Watches across western and central Nebraska, northeastern Colorado, and parts of northwest Kansas.
The National Weather Service offices in Pueblo, Denver, Cheyenne, Hastings, Goodland, and North Platte say temperatures could drop as low as 21–29°F in areas from Colorado Springs to McCook, North Platte, and Scottsbluff.
Meteorologists warned that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, damage sensitive vegetation, and harm unprotected outdoor plumbing. The watch will remain in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday morning.
Clear skies and light winds Saturday night are expected to allow temperatures to fall quickly. Residents are advised to cover or bring in plants, drain sprinkler systems, and protect exposed pipes before the freeze.
The coldest air is expected in low-lying valleys and rural areas along the Nebraska–Colorado border, where frost is likely to be most severe.
