Modelo Beer Spills After Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-280 Near Milan; No Serious Injuries

ROCK ISLAND COUNTY, Ill. — A crash on Interstate 280 west of Illinois 92 involving two semi-trailers, a pickup, and a car spilled numerous cases of Modelo beer Thursday morning, but thankfully, all five people involved escaped with minor injuries.

Illinois State Police reported that Troop 2 responded around 11:25 a.m. on Oct. 16 to the westbound lanes near milepost 10 following reports of a multi-vehicle collision involving a semi-trailer.

Photos from the Blackhawk Fire Protection District show the two semis tipped over and heavily damaged, while the pickup and car also crashed into a wooded area. One overturned semi was hauling large quantities of canned Modelo beer, which scattered across the roadside.

“All vehicles sustained extensive damage; however, all five occupants suffered only very minor injuries,” the Fire Protection District said. “We are extremely grateful for such a positive outcome after what had the potential to be a tragic crash.”

ISP reported that lanes were partially blocked following the incident. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
