A woman is dead and two others were seriously injured following a crash involving a pickup truck and a semi-trailer Friday morning in Bettendorf, Iowa.
According to the City of Bettendorf, three people were inside the pickup when it collided with a semi that was exiting a business and turning onto the 6800 block of State Street (U.S. 67).
A 43-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A 41-year-old man was taken to a local hospital, while a 9-year-old child was airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City. The semi driver was not injured.
Bettendorf Police Chief Doug Scott thanked the public for alerting authorities and assisting at the scene, adding, “Our thoughts are with those who were injured. We will release more information as soon as we’re able to.”
The crash caused both directions of U.S. 67 to close for several hours. The road has since reopened. Officials noted that dense fog at the time made driving conditions extremely dangerous.
Bettendorf Fire and Police Departments, Medic Ambulance, and the Iowa Department of Transportation responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
