TAMPA, Fla. — Florida SNAP recipients may not receive their November benefits if the ongoing federal government shutdown continues, the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) warned Friday.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is funded federally but administered at the state level. Without federal funding, the USDA cannot distribute benefits to eligible recipients. While October benefits were unaffected, November payments are now in jeopardy.
“If the federal government shutdown continues into November, SNAP benefits for November will not be issued until federal funding is restored,” the department said.
Recipients may still receive notices about their eligible benefits, but EBT cards will not be loaded until the shutdown ends. Applicants can check balances at ebtEDGE.com.
DCF emphasized that SNAP applications and renewals will still be processed, and there is no need to reapply, as doing so could slow the process.
Other programs, including Medicaid and Temporary Cash Assistance, are not affected by the shutdown.
“The Department is monitoring the federal government shutdown closely and is committed to resuming benefits as quickly as possible once funding is restored,” a DCF spokesperson said.
