Winds Expected to Pick Up from Desert to Mountains, Cooler Weather Ahead for Sunday

The atmospheric river drenching the Pacific Northwest this weekend won’t extend far enough south to reach our region. A strong high-pressure system sitting over the Pacific to our southwest will block that moisture from moving in.

However, the growing pressure gradient—the difference in atmospheric pressure between the two systems—will keep winds gusty across the desert, mountains, and Kern River Valley. Expect breezy conditions across the South Valley too, along with noticeably cooler temperatures on Sunday.

Looking ahead to next week, the local weather pattern appears calm, and it seems October will wrap up without any additional rainfall. That’s still good news—our 0.90 inches of rain this month have already put us well above normal for this time of year. Enjoy the cooler day ahead!
