16-Year-Old Killed, Teen Injured After Mini Bike Collision in Florida

FLORIDA — A 16-year-old boy was killed and a 17-year-old passenger injured Saturday afternoon when their mini bike collided with a car, according to the Riviera Beach Police Department.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. near the 600 block of West Blue Heron Boulevard. Investigators said the mini bike was traveling above the posted speed limit when it struck a 2007 Nissan Sentra.

Both teens were taken by Riviera Beach Fire Rescue to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where the 16-year-old driver was pronounced dead later that afternoon. The 17-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.

Police said neither teen was wearing a helmet and reminded the public that operating a mini bike on public roads is illegal.

The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death, while the traffic fatality investigation remains ongoing.

No charges have been filed at this time.
