Coroner Identifies Three Teenagers Killed in Taylorville Crash

The Christian County Coroner has identified the three teenagers who died in a single-vehicle crash south of Taylorville on October 7.

The victims were Tyler Burkhart, 17, Tabitha Freeman, 15, and Trinity Tyler, 15, all from Taylorville, according to Coroner Austin Peters, who announced their names on November 4 via Facebook.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred around 2:18 a.m. on 1400 East Road near 1100 North Road.

The Illinois State Police Reconstruction Unit and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, Peters said.

Following the tragedy, Taylorville School Superintendent Brandi Bruley shared a heartfelt message on Facebook:

“We are writing to you today with a heavy heart regarding a tragedy that has impacted our school community. During this challenging time, our thoughts are with those families experiencing pain and loss.

Our community is strongest when we stand together, and we encourage everyone to keep these affected families in your thoughts as they navigate this immense difficulty.”

Bruley added that counselors will be available in all district buildings to support students and staff during this difficult time.
