RICHLAND, N.Y. — A 77-year-old hunter from Massachusetts was safely located after becoming lost in the woods of a nearby New York county.
According to New York State Police, officers responded to State Route 3 near Kelly Road in Richland around 4:35 p.m. on Nov. 5 after the man called to report he was lost and had a low cellphone battery.
Police said the hunter had been struggling with the terrain since about 1:30 p.m. and had become stuck in a marshy area.
Although initial attempts to track him using cellphone coordinates proved difficult, a search team using a K-9 unit, drones, and ground crews successfully located the man roughly 0.77 miles from his vehicle.
Authorities confirmed that he was uninjured and in good health when found.
