Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey is calling on residents to step up and support their communities as SNAP benefits remain paused, leaving thousands struggling to access food assistance.
Healey encouraged those who can to donate time, money, or food to local pantries, emphasizing that the need for help is growing across the state.
“Not only will not all of our million resident population get their SNAP benefits, but even for those who do, they won’t receive the full amount,” Healey said. “Some may get half, and some may get zero.”
The pause in benefits comes as Massachusetts and Rhode Island work to recalculate partial SNAP payments under new USDA guidance, which changes how the benefits are determined.
With more residents turning to food banks for assistance, officials stress that community support is crucial to help families bridge the gap until benefits resume.
