Philadelphia Braces for Breezy and Cooler Thursday as Colder Weather Approaches

Residents across the Philadelphia area should prepare for a noticeable drop in temperatures on Thursday as gusty winds linger behind the cold front that moved through Wednesday evening.

While the winds won’t be as strong as the previous day’s powerful front, Thursday will feel significantly cooler. By the afternoon and evening, winds will gradually ease, setting up a chilly night — potentially the coldest yet this season. Philadelphia has yet to dip below 40 degrees this fall, but that could change by Thursday night.

Frost advisories are now in effect across Philadelphia and Delaware counties, as well as South Jersey and Delaware, signaling the start of frost season for much of the region.

Temperatures will tumble from the upper 60s and low 70s on Wednesday to the 40s and 50s on Thursday, before rebounding into the 60s by Friday. However, another stronger system will move in Friday night, bringing rain and gusty winds that could spark a few showers. This marks the start of a more unsettled weekend, with Sunday expected to see the heaviest rainfall as an even colder front pushes through.

Looking ahead, next week turns sharply colder. Highs on Monday and Tuesday will only reach the mid to upper 40s, and widespread freezing temperatures are likely by Tuesday morning. Factoring in the wind, wind chills could drop into the 20s — and even the teens in some spots.

If you haven’t pulled out your cold-weather gear, this weekend is the time to do it.
