Central Nebraska Weather Alert: Gusty Winds and Single-Digit Wind Chills Expected This Weekend

HASTINGS, Neb. — A sharp blast of cold air and strong winds will move across central and northeast Nebraska this weekend, bringing the coldest temperatures of the season so far, according to the National Weather Service in Hastings.

Light showers may develop tonight, mainly in the northeastern part of the state. Late Saturday night, a few flurries are possible north of I-80 as much colder air sweeps in behind a passing cold front.

Saturday’s highs will reach the low 50s to around 60 degrees before conditions turn windy by afternoon, with gusts up to 45 mph. Overnight, temperatures will plunge into the teens and 20s, and wind chills could drop into the single digits by Sunday morning.

Sunday will be cold but sunny, with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Monday will start off chilly before temperatures gradually climb back into the mid-50s by afternoon.

Residents are advised to prepare for blustery, winter-like conditions and use caution if traveling Saturday night or early Sunday, as gusty winds and light flurries may reduce visibility and create dangerously cold wind chills.
