POLK, Neb. — A woman died Thursday evening after being struck by an ATV while walking along a rural road in Polk County.
The crash occurred around 5:15 p.m., about a mile south of the intersection of County Road C and Highway 66, roughly 15 miles east of Central City. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a man driving an ATV north on County Road C hit 56-year-old Carol Lynn Hofmann of Polk, who was walking south on the northbound shoulder of the gravel road.
Hofmann was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Central City, where she later died. The ATV driver was not injured.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and it remains unclear whether the driver will face charges or receive a citation.
