DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Davenport man has been charged after police say he stole a car and items from a vape shop and was found carrying a butcher knife at the time of his arrest.
On August 10, Davenport Police responded around 4:27 a.m. to a report of a stolen Kia Optima from a residence in the 1900 block of Valley Drive. The car was later found abandoned in the 3200 block of Valley Vista Drive the next day. The victim provided officers with several Facebook videos showing the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Taejon McFulson, inside the vehicle driving around the QC metro area. A search warrant confirmed the account belonged to McFulson, and investigators saw multiple videos of him driving the car without permission. Several electronic devices were missing when the Kia was recovered.
On September 16, Davenport Police responded to Essentials Vape and Smoke Shop, 2225 W. 53rd Street, around 1:30 a.m. McFulson is accused of using a previously stolen key to enter the building after hours. He allegedly took items valued at less than $300 without paying, permanently depriving the business of their property.
Officers returned to the vape shop on September 18 around 11:30 p.m. for a follow-up investigation and found McFulson inside. He initially refused police commands to place his hands behind his back, forcing officers to restrain him on the ground. During a search, they found an eight-inch butcher knife in his waistband and a folding knife in his front pocket.
McFulson was arrested and charged with felony counts of second-degree theft, third-degree burglary, probation violation, and interference with a weapon. He also faces a misdemeanor fifth-degree theft charge and an interstate detainer. He is being held without bond in the Scott County Jail, awaiting his initial court appearance.
