Prayers are pouring in for four major U.S. states preparing for a powerful winter storm on Monday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings for potentially severe snowstorms that could dump up to 8 to 10 inches of snow across several key areas.
“Bands of intense lake-effect snow are expected tonight into Monday near many of the Great Lakes regions highlighted in this image. Dangerous to impossible travel conditions are possible, including during the Monday morning commutes for some,” the NWS cautioned.
A significant winter storm is on its way.
The affected states include:
-
Illinois
-
Indiana
-
Michigan
-
Wisconsin
What to Do During a Winter Storm:
-
Stay Inside: If you’re using heat from a fireplace, wood stove, or space heater, take fire safety precautions and ensure proper ventilation. For homes with gas furnaces, make sure the vent isn’t blocked by snow. If your upstairs furnace vents through the roof, consider turning it off until the snow melts.
If Your Heat Goes Out:
-
Close off rooms you don’t need to conserve warmth.
-
Use towels or rags to block drafts under doors.
-
Keep blinds or curtains closed to retain heat.
-
Eat and drink regularly — food provides energy to maintain body heat. Drink plenty of water and other non-caffeinated, non-alcoholic beverages to prevent dehydration, as cold air tends to be dry.
-
Wear layers of loose, lightweight, and warm clothing. Remove layers as needed to avoid sweating and chills.
Stay safe, everyone.
