Motorists Benefit from Two Orange County Repaving Projects

ALBANY — Portions of two state roadways in Orange County will be repaved following efforts by Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall).

Starting Wednesday, September 24, five miles of Route 17 will be milled and repaved between exits 119 and 116, stretching from the Wallkill area to the Sullivan County border.

“This stretch of Route 17 has been in very rough shape for too long, so I am thrilled this length of road will be made safer and more comfortable for drivers,” Skoufis said.

To minimize traffic delays, work will take place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Temporary ramp closures will be implemented as resurfacing progresses, and message signs will direct drivers to alternative routes. Completion is expected in early October.

Sections of Route 17M—from Gilbert Street in Monroe-Harriman to the Route 17 intersection and from Route 207 in Goshen to the Route 94 intersection in Chester—will also be repaved, with work scheduled for next year.

Skoufis noted that this portion of Route 17M “has to be the number-one stretch of pothole hell” based on complaints his office receives.

“Route 17M runs through the heart of our communities, connecting families, businesses, and visitors across Orange County,” said Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R, Deerpark). “For too long, residents have endured unsafe conditions and costly damage to their vehicles while waiting for the state to act. I’m pleased that after years of advocacy, this long-overdue project is finally moving forward. Investing in our infrastructure not only improves safety and quality of life, it also strengthens the economic vitality of our towns and ensures Orange and Rockland County residents get the attention they deserve.”
