CHICAGO — Initial unemployment benefit filings in Illinois declined last week compared with the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor reported Thursday.
New jobless claims, a measure of layoffs, fell to 9,075 for the week ending September 13, down from 10,179 the week before.
Across the U.S., unemployment claims dropped to 231,000 last week, a decrease of 33,000 from the prior week’s 264,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
South Carolina reported the largest weekly increase in claims, rising 60.6%, while North Dakota saw the largest decrease, with claims falling 70.9%.
