Florida authorities took a Florida man into custody after the deaths of two children, 9-year-old Vaiden and 7-year-old Raiden. The Sheriff’s Office charged 27-year-old J. Walston with two counts of premeditated murder, one count of sexual assault on a victim under 12, one count of arson for intentionally setting fire to a mobile home, and an additional charge for killing an animal found inside the residence.
The two children were found deceased inside a trailer after flames engulfed the structure at the mobile home park in Florida. Investigators reported the fire broke out at the park. Evidence, according to the sheriff’s office, shows the defendant sexually assaulted one of the children before he killed them both. He then set the fire, but managed to save himself. The victims’ mother also received treatment for severe burns at the hospital after she tried to run into the burning home to rescue her children.
Emergency crews responded to the mobile home fire, which started the investigation process. Responding officers and fire investigators secured the scene and determined someone intentionally set the fire after the children were killed. A preliminary review indicated the two deaths occurred before the blaze, and the fire appeared to have been used to conceal the crime. Tyler, the father of Raiden and step-dad of Vaiden, told a local news outlet the trailer belonged to the defendant, whom he had known for years. The father asked, “How can you expect any human being to do this? Let alone an adult with two kids.” He stated the defendant reportedly lives in the mobile home with his family, including his two children. He also said his children were allegedly staying at the defendant’s trailer with his own kids when the incident occurred.
