Four officers injured during ICE protest
Four state and local law enforcement officers were injured and authorities arrested 21 people Friday during a protest outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement center in Broadview.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office said demonstrators moved out of the designated protest zone near the facility. A statement from Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson said two Broadview police officers, an Illinois State Police trooper, and a Cook County sheriff’s deputy were injured during the confrontation.
Tax amnesty deadline Monday
Monday is the final day for Illinois residents to pay eligible outstanding tax liabilities and have related penalties and interest waived.
The state’s 2025 tax amnesty program runs from Oct. 1 to Nov. 17 for tax debt from periods between June 30, 2018, and July 1, 2024.
Illinois Department of Revenue Director David Harris told The Center Square the state was on pace to meet its goal of collecting more than $240 million.
Starved Rock open during winter work
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Illinois Capital Development Board say Starved Rock State Park will stay open to visitors during an $18 million trail improvement project expected to begin this winter.
The project is part of a $37.2 million state taxpayer investment in Illinois’ most-visited state park. Officials said the Starved Rock Lodge and other park amenities will also remain open.
