Florida mom loses it and stabs son with a fork over school tardiness

A Florida mom is accused of stabbing her son with a fork during an argument about school tardiness and a cellphone bill.

Leticia Puentes, 39, was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to Miami-Dade County jail records. The alleged domestic violence incident happened Thursday morning.

Puentes admitted to stabbing her son with a fork but claimed she acted in self-defense.

She was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and is being held on a $3,000 bond.

Puentes and her son were arguing at their home on Northwest 72nd Street, about six miles from Downtown Miami.

The argument began around 8:15 a.m., and her son allegedly started throwing things around the house.

ABC affiliate WPLG reported that they were arguing about a phone bill and the son being late to school.

The situation escalated, and the two ended up tussling on the floor. According to an arrest report obtained by Law&Crime, Puentes’ son said she “grabbed a fork and stabbed him behind the ear.”

Officers said the son had a “fresh bleeding puncture wound” behind his right ear when they arrived.

First responders treated him at the scene.

The incident comes as a 5-year-old from Louisiana died in his family’s driveway while waiting for the school bus. Carson Lawson died Tuesday morning, Nov. 11. His grandmother, Kristen Anders, is accused of fatally running over him while allegedly driving under the influence at 7 a.m.

Anders, 55, was leaving her driveway in Sidell on her way to work when she reportedly hit Carson head-on, killing him.

Authorities said she was under the influence of alcohol and sedatives and arrested her shortly after.

Anders reportedly stopped immediately after realizing what had happened. Officers said she has been cooperating with their investigation.

Carson’s mother, Abi Combs, released a joint Facebook statement with his father, Ryan Lawson, about their son’s death.

“There is absolutely nothing in this world that I could say to truly express the sorrow I will now and forever have in my heart,” Combs wrote.

She said Carson’s sudden death and how it happened were among the “most traumatic and devastating scenarios [she has] ever had to endure.”
