Miami-Dade judge sentences ‘remorseless’ convicted murderer to life in prison

Victim’s mother on sentencing day: ‘You took my son’s life, and you’re gonna regret it’

A Miami-Dade County judge has sentenced 23-year-old Marcuss Ealy to life in prison for the 2023 killing of Malcolm Johnson, who was 21 when he was shot during an armed robbery.

During Monday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Christina Miranda allowed Johnson’s mother, Donna Saddler, to speak directly to her son’s killer. Saddler said Ealy showed no remorse after being convicted of first-degree murder and armed robbery on Oct. 1.

“I’m seeing if you have remorse, you ain’t got no remorse, and I wish they give you the max, I really do,” she told him. “You took my son’s life, and you’re gonna regret it. You’re gonna regret it.”

Throughout the hearing, Ealy disrupted the courtroom by sighing loudly and clanking his handcuffs. Miranda warned him she would use a straitjacket or cover his mouth if the behavior continued. She ultimately handed down a life sentence with a 25-year minimum mandatory term.

According to prosecutors, surveillance video captured Ealy shooting Johnson during a robbery in an alley behind a North Miami Beach strip club. Detectives said he then stole Johnson’s chain, photographed it, and shared the images on social media.
