2 Illinois Secretary of State employees allegedly took bribes to expedite IDs

EDWARDSVILLE — Two employees with the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office were charged last week with bribery after investigators say they accepted money to speed up the processing of a state-issued license for another person.

The suspects are a 47-year-old woman from East St. Louis and a 33-year-old woman from Edwardsville.

Both were charged on Nov. 17 with bribery, classified as a Class 2 felony, and official misconduct, a Class 3 felony.

The Illinois Secretary of State Police presented both cases.

According to court documents, the Edwardsville woman allegedly accepted a $25 bribe on July 2, while the East St. Louis woman accepted a $50 bribe to expedite identification processing.

The documents did not specify which office the two employees worked out of.

Both suspects were ordered released from custody.

Missouri man charged with possessing stolen vehicle

A 38-year-old Florissant, Missouri, man was charged on Nov. 14 with unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class 2 felony, and aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer, a Class 4 felony.

The case was presented by the Pontoon Beach Police Department.

According to court records, on April 15, the suspect was allegedly found in possession of a stolen 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan and fled from a Pontoon Beach police officer, reaching speeds more than 21 miles over the posted limit.

He was ordered remanded to jail.

Bethalto man charged with theft of metal, other items

A 36-year-old Bethalto man was charged on Nov. 14 with theft, a Class 3 felony.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Department presented the case.

Court documents state that on Oct. 16, the suspect took scrap metal, cast iron, a metal wood burner, and a wood boiler valued at more than $500 from another person.

He was ordered released from custody.

St. Louis woman charged with theft of perfume, cologne

A 24-year-old St. Louis woman was charged on Nov. 17 with retail theft over $300, a Class 3 felony.

The Alton Police Department presented the case.

According to court records, on July 15, she allegedly stole multiple bottles of perfume and cologne valued at more than $300 from Ulta Beauty at 1735 Homer Adams Parkway.

She was ordered released from custody.
