Miami-Dade man arrested again for impersonating officer, authorities say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A Miami-Dade man was arrested over the weekend for impersonating a corrections officer, marking at least the second time he has faced similar charges, according to an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News on Wednesday.

Jail records show that 22-year-old Erick Anthony Moore Jr. was taken into custody near the 6200 block of Northwest 22nd Avenue after deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said they saw him dressed in a full corrections officer uniform. His clothing included a jacket labeled “LT E Moore” and another marked “Corrections.”

Moore allegedly told officers he was a corrections officer but could not provide a valid ID card.

Authorities confirmed Moore is known in the area and was actively impersonating a corrections officer when they arrived.

He was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after probable cause was established during a brief bond court hearing. Investigators also noted that Moore has previous arrests in Monroe County on unrelated charges.

Moore first drew attention in January 2022 when he was arrested at Miami Palmetto Senior High School while posing as a corrections officer.

At that time, investigators said he wore a corrections jacket, a traffic vest, and a Florida corrections ID badge belonging to someone else. Officers also found handcuffs, a pocketknife, a firearm-shaped thermometer, and two credit cards that were not his.

He faced charges in 2022 including impersonating an officer, trespassing on school property with a firearm, unlawful possession of stolen credit cards, burglary, and unlawful use of a police badge.

Jail records indicate he currently faces one count of falsely impersonating a police or corrections officer. He was no longer listed as an inmate on Miami-Dade’s jail website as of Wednesday morning after posting a $2,500 bond.
