The daughter of a man killed in a small plane crash is remembering her father. Two northwest Ohio brothers, 82-year-old Terry Henricks and 85-year-old Roger Henricks, died on Nov. 14 in a small plane crash in Henry County.
“They would just fly around. My dad loved going over racetracks and golf courses and just seeing familiar sights and homes of our family and things like that,” said Terry’s daughter, Rachel Jones.
Terry was well-known in Archbold. He built a successful career owning car dealerships, including Terry Henricks Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM and Terry Henricks Ford.
“He dropped out of school in eighth grade, but that didn’t stop him. He started in the automotive business and ended up buying the two dealerships and … didn’t mind taking a risk and had great success in that, but was so humble,” Jones said. “He never hung his hat on his success and loved, loved people so much.”
Jones says her dad was much more than a businessman; he was a family man. “He loved his family. Me and my two sisters, my mom. They were married 62 years. Loved her so much,” she said.
Jones says Terry was also a pillar in the community. He enjoyed doing small acts of kindness for everyone, whether he knew them or not.
“My sister at the funeral, jokingly, as she was giving her eulogy, just looked around the room and said, ‘if Terry ever bought you a meal, will you please stand?'” Jones recalled. “That was his thing, like he loved doing that for people. I didn’t totally turn around, but I could see. I’m not sure many people weren’t standing.”
At 82, Terry also loved adventure; so much so that Jones says he went skydiving in his 70s. “For his 78th birthday, he wanted to skydive,” Jones said. “We went to Jackson, Michigan, and checked it off his list. He just loved that.”
Above all else, though, Jones says her father was dedicated to his faith, which is what she and her family are holding on to as they remember him.
“We just want the legacy of his faith to go on and to continue to change lives because it changed his,” she said. “We know where he is and that’s how we have hope to get through this because it’s hard, but we’ll see him again.”
Jones says her uncle, Roger, will be remembered as a sweet, smiley and pleasant man who will also be missed.
