Florida — A Florida judge this week sentenced 32-year-old Daniel to life in prison after a jury convicted him of second-degree murder, abuse of a dead human body, and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of 44-year-old Nanci.
Investigators began probing Nanci’s disappearance after her former spouse reported her missing in February 2023, when she failed to pick up their children as scheduled. Her abandoned vehicle was discovered the next day, with personal items still inside. Authorities quickly focused on Daniel, who had been seeing Nanci after meeting her on a dating app. Court records show he visited a remote, undeveloped area shortly before and after her disappearance.
Using surveillance footage, cell-phone data, and forensic evidence, law enforcement tracked Daniel to the location late at night multiple times. After his arrest, investigators found burned and scattered human remains. Forensic anthropologists confirmed the remains belonged to Nanci, and evidence showed she had been shot before her body was dismembered, burned, and dispersed across the remote site.
Court records and prosecutors said Daniel lured Nanci, a mother of two, to the location under the pretense of a shooting lesson after she reportedly refused to commit exclusively to him. During the encounter, he shot her in the head and then attempted to destroy her body to conceal the crime.
At trial, Nanci’s former spouse described the impact of her disappearance on the family, including the loss felt by the children and the anguish caused by the crime. Prosecutor Samanta said Daniel had become angry and jealous because Nanci was seeing other men and their relationship was not exclusive. He also expressed frustration that she was not following what he considered his “relationship rules.”
Daniel initially denied any wrongdoing, but the weight of forensic evidence and behavioral patterns demonstrating premeditation led the jury to convict him. His conviction and life sentence bring closure to a case that deeply affected Nanci’s family and the community.
