(WAND) – Even though parts of Central Illinois received rain over the weekend, other areas remain extremely dry on the first official day of fall.
The dry conditions have increased the risk of wildfires across much of the region, prompting many communities and counties to issue burn bans.
WAND News will continue to provide updates on new burn bans and announce when existing ones are lifted.
Coles County
The burn ban in Coles County stays in effect until further notice.
The Coles County Emergency Management Agency posted on Facebook on Sept. 22 that the ban remains in place due to “minuscule rain totals.”

Christian County
Christian County lifts its temporary open burning ban.
Macon County
Macon County issues a burn ban effective immediately.
Windsor
Windsor issues a burn ban.
Athens
The City of Athens issued a burn advisory Friday night, effective immediately and continuing until further notice.
In a Sept. 12 press release, Athens said all open burning, including bonfires, fire pits, brush piles, and burn barrels, is prohibited.
The City added that residents can use charcoal and gas grills only if they are attended at all times.
Decatur
The Decatur Fire Department urges residents to avoid open burning amid extremely dry conditions.
Chatham
