A cold night is ahead for parts of South Texas, with near-freezing temperatures possible from late tonight into early Monday morning, according to forecasters.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, temperatures in the northeastern region will dip into the 30s due to clearing sky and light breezes behind a morning cold front. A few localities, namely around the Victoria Crossroads and other low-lying areas, may see temperatures below freezing for a limited period.
Forecasters predict a low to medium chance (20-40%) of temperatures falling below 32 degrees, with any freezing conditions lasting only 0 to 2 hours near daybreak Monday morning.
Wind chill values of 25-30°F are possible in the Victoria Crossroads and 30-40°F elsewhere in the Coastal Bend and Brush Country, making it feel colder than it is.
The NWS recommends that individuals take modest precautions, such as safeguarding delicate outside plants and bringing pets indoors overnight. While significant damage is unlikely, even brief periods of cold might destroy exposed vegetation.
Temperatures are forecast to increase swiftly after sunrise on Monday, with warmer weather returning by late morning and afternoon.
