Gusty winds and extensive rain will hit northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania today as a powerful cold front sweeps through, prompting a Wind Advisory in Erie County, Pennsylvania, according to the National Weather Service.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, southerly to southwesterly winds will increase from late morning until today evening, with gusts reaching 30 to 50 mph. The highest gusts are forecast along and within 10 miles of Lake Erie, especially in Erie County, Pennsylvania, where a Wind Advisory is in force from 11 a.m. Thursday until 1 a.m. Friday.
Despite the wind, temperatures will be above average, with highs in the mid-40s to low 50s across much of northern Ohio, including Cleveland, Toledo, Sandusky, Akron, and Youngstown. Cooler temperatures are forecast near the shoreline in northwest Pennsylvania, with highs in the upper 40s.
Rain will move from west to east this afternoon, becoming widespread and occasionally heavy in the evening as the cold front approaches. Wet roads mixed with strong gusts may produce hazardous driving conditions, particularly during the evening commute.
The National Weather Service advises that unsecured outdoor objects may be blown around, and strong gusts may cause isolated power outages, especially around Lake Erie.
Rain is forecast to taper off late tonight as the cold front moves east, with colder weather following on Friday.
