Pennsylvania Weather Alert: Light Snow And Ice Expected Late Monday Night Into Tuesday

A period of light wintry weather could cause sloppy travel conditions in eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and surrounding areas late Monday night into early Tuesday, with the largest impacts forecast north and west of Philadelphia.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, precipitation is likely to start after midnight Monday night, primarily as snow, before transitioning to freezing rain or a rain and snow mix in certain regions Tuesday morning. The biggest possibility of 1 to 2 inches of snow is along and north of the Interstate 80 corridor, while totals could reach as far south as the I-78 corridor.

The Poconos, far northwestern New Jersey, and the Lehigh Valley may have snow turning to freezing rain early Tuesday, leaving a light glaze of ice on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Even light icing might cause slippery conditions on the morning commute.

Further south, including the Philadelphia metro region, light snow accumulations of less than one inch are expected, with precipitation more likely to transition to rain and reduce consequences. Still, temporary slick areas may form before temperatures climb.

Precipitation is predicted to diminish by early Tuesday afternoon. Drivers should allow for extra travel time, limit speeds, and stay attentive to changing road conditions. Additional cautions may be issued if icing becomes more widespread on Tuesday morning.
