Central Florida preps for a warm Christmas, but changes loom near New Year’s

ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida will enjoy a warm and mild stretch of weather through Christmas, with little change expected day to day.

Afternoon highs will remain in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees, a few degrees above the seasonal average. Forecasters describe the outlook as a “copy-and-paste forecast,” with nearly identical conditions expected each day through Christmas. Overnight lows will stay comfortable, ranging from the upper 50s to low 60s, with coastal areas near Melbourne remaining slightly warmer due to the Gulf Stream.

Sunshine will dominate, with only a few wispy clouds at times, keeping outdoor holiday plans stress-free. Rain chances remain minimal, aside from a few brief sprinkles or light drizzle moving inland from the Atlantic in parts of Polk, Osceola, and Brevard counties.

Beach hazards despite calm weather

While inland conditions remain quiet, beachgoers should exercise caution. A high rip current risk continues along the Atlantic coast, especially in Flagler, Volusia, and Brevard counties, where surf ranges from 3 to 5 feet. Gusty winds of 20 to 25 mph, driven by high pressure sliding east of the region, are creating dangerous water conditions.

Dry pattern continues

High pressure will keep Central Florida dry for at least the next week, and possibly up to two weeks. Any hopes for widespread rainfall remain on hold as stable weather dominates the region.

Pattern change possible near New Year’s

Forecasters are watching for a potential shift as 2026 approaches. Weather models suggest a stronger cold front could arrive between Dec. 29 and Dec. 31, bringing below-average temperatures and the first meaningful rain chances in weeks. Confidence in the timing and intensity of the system is still developing.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated as the New Year approaches, but for now, Central Florida can expect a warm, dry, and comfortable Christmas.
