The National Weather Service in Portland, Oregon, has released a weather update for the region, predicting a rainy end to December. According to the NWS, showers are forecast before 2 p.m. today, with the snow level lowering from 3200 to 2200 feet during the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to linger around 47 degrees Fahrenheit, with a south breeze shifting west as the day progresses. “Chance of precipitation is 90%,” predicts the National Weather Service, with new precipitation quantities ranging from a tenth to a quarter of an inch probable.
Tonight, Portlanders could expect continued showers, primarily before 3 a.m., with the snow level forecast to remain steady at 1600 feet. During the night, the temperature will remain around 40 degrees, with winds from the west southwest at 6 to 8 miles per hour. As locals prepare for the weekend, the NWS predicts a 40 percent chance of showers tomorrow morning, with a snow level of 1400 feet, and a slight possibility of seeing the sun on Sunday.
The chill appears to remain for the next week. Monday will see frost before 10 a.m., followed by partly sunny skies in the afternoon, with highs topping 46 degrees. Portland residents should prepare for gloomy skies and some rain on New Year’s Day, with the NWS predicting “Rain likely” and a high of 49 degrees.
Portland’s cold nights are expected to linger into early next week. “Areas with frost after 1 a.m. Otherwise, partly overcast with a low of 34,” according to the NWS outlook for Sunday night. With generally cloudy to partly sunny days, temperatures will struggle to get far above the mid-40s. In terms of precipitation, there is a modest risk of rain in the middle of the week, which could result in soggy conditions on New Year’s Day for anyone planning outdoor activities in 2026.
