Freeze Warning, Frost Advisory, and Cold Weather Advisory begin at 1 a.m. Wednesday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tuesday’s low temperature dipped to 37 degrees, while the high reached just 51. Fun fact: the 43-degree drop from Monday’s high of 80 to Tuesday’s low ranks as the 13th-largest temperature change in less than 24 hours for December, according to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville.
Clearing skies over the next several hours will allow cold air to settle overnight, with northwest winds creating wind chill values in the 20s.
Main hazards:
Freeze Warning – In effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday for all of southeast Georgia and inland areas of northeast Florida north of I-10, where temperatures are expected to fall into the mid-20s.
Cold Weather Advisory – Active from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday for parts of northeast Florida, as wind chills could drop as low as 19 degrees.
A hard freeze is not expected at this time, though inland portions of southeast Georgia and northeast Florida could briefly approach those conditions, as freezing temperatures are not forecast to last long enough to meet criteria.
Frost Advisory – In effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday along the northeast Florida coast from Duval to Flagler counties. Temperatures near 33 degrees may lead to frost formation. Residents are urged to protect sensitive outdoor plants.
