The Washington Police Department is advising citizens to avoid needless travel as winter weather worsens, causing hazardous traffic conditions throughout the city.
As the situation worsens, police have already reported numerous disabled vehicles and are actively assisting stranded motorists.
Officials advised only undertaking travel when absolutely necessary. While PennDOT crews prioritize major interstates, smaller state-owned roads will be treated as conditions permit, police said.
City Public Works staff are also plowing and treating streets, but police say the lower traffic allows them to work more swiftly and safely.
Officials stated that road conditions continue to be hazardous and unpredictable.
Although New Year’s Eve celebrations are beginning, police have urged locals to prioritize safety and limit travel whenever possible in order to safeguard themselves and emergency services.
Residents who must go are encouraged to take extreme precautions. Authorities urged the public to stay at home, stay warm, and monitor situations as winter weather continued to affect the area.
