Chicago & Illinois – Multiple Snow Chances Anticipated This Weekend

Multiple possibilities of snow are predicted over northern Illinois this weekend as cooler air comes in and precipitation persists, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.

Forecasters predict patchy fog and precipitation tonight, followed by warm weather through midweek. Rain chances increase Thursday and will last into the weekend, when lowering temperatures may cause rain to mix with or turn to snow at times.

According to the National Weather Service, the first snow may fall late Friday as lighter precipitation develops and temperatures linger near freezing. Saturday may bring further light snow or a rain-snow mix as colder air continues to enter the region.

While heavy snowfall is not expected, officials said multiple rounds of precipitation mixed with dropping temperatures might result in occasional slick conditions, particularly tonight or early in the morning. The exact timing and type of precipitation will be determined by how quickly the colder air arrives.

Forecasts indicate that daytime highs will decrease from the 40s and low 50s later this week to the mid-30s by Saturday, with nightly lows dipping into the 20s. These temperatures enhance the possibility of some precipitation falling as snow instead of rain.

The prediction may be especially important for weekend travelers, commuters, and outdoor activities in the Chicago area and northern Illinois.
