Deputies Recover Stolen Pickup After Hit on License Plate Reader in Nebraska City

SYRACUSE – The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man and recovered a Dodge Ram pickup reported stolen from Colorado.

Deputies responded after a Nebraska State Patrol license plate reader at the Highway 2 weigh station flagged the stolen vehicle. According to an arrest affidavit, they found the pickup parked at the gas pumps at Love’s Travel Center near Syracuse.

Alejandro Saez, 36, of Columbia, Missouri, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and theft on Sept. 21 and held on $75,000 bond. A county judge dismissed charges against two other Columbia men who were riding in the pickup.

The affidavit states deputies told the men, using a smartphone interpretation app, that if they did not admit to owning the meth found in the passenger-side door, everyone in the pickup would be arrested. Saez denied possessing the meth and said he bought the truck for $600 in Missouri.
