Miami-Area Man Fires into Car, Bullet Lodges in Headrest

CUTLER BAY — A Cutler Bay man fired a gun into another vehicle during a Sunday night road rage incident, sending a bullet into the back of the driver’s headrest, according to police.

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded shortly after 11 p.m. near Southwest 184th Street and Southwest 117th Avenue. They found a bullet hole through the back windshield, a bullet lodged in the driver’s headrest, and a spent casing on the road. The vehicle and driver were not identified.

The driver told deputies he was traveling east on Southwest 184th Street when a white 2022 Ford F-150, driven by the suspect, began flashing lights and attempting to pass. As the truck tried to pass on the right, the driver slowed and fired one round into the vehicle.

Deputies later traced the truck to 37-year-old Cristopher Portillo. At his home, Portillo admitted to being involved in the road rage incident and firing his gun. He claimed a driver in a blue sports car had repeatedly hit his brakes and appeared to display a firearm, which led him to discharge his weapon in fear.

Portillo was arrested around 4 a.m. Monday and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he is held on a $7,500 bond. He faces one count of shooting a deadly missile.
