NEW YORK — U.S. federal prosecutors have recommended that Sean “Diddy” Combs receive more than 11 years in prison following his conviction on prostitution-related charges.
In a court filing, prosecutors requested “at least 135 months’ imprisonment” and a $500,000 fine. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian is scheduled to sentence Combs on Friday in Manhattan.
Combs, 55, faces up to 20 years behind bars after a jury found him guilty on July 2 of transporting male prostitutes across state lines to engage in drug-fueled sexual performances while his girlfriends watched and he recorded video. He was acquitted of the more serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, which could have carried a life sentence. Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges and plans to appeal.
His defense team last week requested a 14-month sentence, arguing that the judge should not consider evidence of abuse against former girlfriends since jurors acquitted Combs of coercing them into sexual activity. With such a sentence, he would be released by year-end, factoring in time already served at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center following his September 16, 2024 arrest.
Combs, founder of Bad Boy Records, is credited with popularizing hip-hop in American culture. During the trial, prosecutors said he coerced two former girlfriends into participating in the performances, sometimes called “Freak Offs,” and physically threatened them to ensure compliance. Combs’ lawyers contended there was no direct link between alleged domestic abuse and the women’s participation, leading to his acquittal on the sex trafficking and racketeering counts.
