Nebraska Faces Job Losses as Kellogg Factory Set to Close

Nebraska is bracing for more economic challenges after a tough 2025.

Following disruptive ICE raids that affected the state’s beef industry, the next blow comes from a major employer. WK Kellogg Co., maker of iconic cereals like Froot Loops, Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran, and Rice Krispies, announced plans to close its Omaha production factory.

The closure is part of Kellogg’s larger strategy to streamline production across multiple plants, resulting in several hundred job losses. Production reductions at the Omaha plant will begin this year, with full closure expected in 2026.

Kellogg and other cereal makers are facing long-term declines in demand as Americans cut sugar and carbs. Inflation, labor shortages, supply chain changes, and foreign boycotts of American goods have also contributed to the need for production cuts and layoffs.

Despite the broader economic context, the factory closure will be a difficult blow for the hardworking Nebraskans affected by these job losses.
