ILLINOIS — A 70-year-old Air Force veteran, Dana Briggs, faces a felony assault charge following a protest outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility, where a video showed him being shoved to the ground by a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agent.
The video, captured by writer Amanda Moore, shows Briggs asking agents why they were moving forward as they tried to secure the facility perimeter. Moore described the scene: “Just as they reached the fence, they changed course and began moving forward, yelling at protesters to get out of the road. Briggs asks why, and an agent appears to push him, knocking him to the ground.”
The Department of Justice alleges that Briggs “made physical contact with an agent’s arm while the agent attempted to extend the safety perimeter around the facility,” causing the agent to “experience pain” in his wrist, according to charging documents.
Three other protesters at the event were also charged with felony assault, and another faced misdemeanor charges for forcibly resisting, opposing, impeding, and interfering with a federal officer.
