A 42-year-old man accused of groping two women at a downtown CTA station in June has been ordered held in custody while awaiting trial, prosecutors said.
Angelo Guerrero faces two counts of criminal sexual abuse and two counts of aggravated battery of a transit customer in connection with the June 16 assaults at the Washington-Wabash station, 29 North Wabash.
Prosecutors said CTA surveillance video showed Guerrero approach a woman waiting on the platform, touch her between the legs, and walk away. Around the same time, another woman at the station reported experiencing the same assault.
Investigators linked Guerrero to the attacks through the Ventra card used by the suspect. They then included his photo in a lineup, and both victims identified him, according to a Chicago police report. When officers arrested Guerrero, he was allegedly wearing the same clothes seen in the surveillance video.
Judge Ankur Srivastava approved prosecutors’ request to keep Guerrero in custody until trial.
Court records show Guerrero has no recent criminal cases in Cook County, with his last local case in 2015. His earlier record includes a three-year prison sentence for unlawful gun possession in 2003. In 2001, he faced attempted murder charges but later pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and was sentenced to the Cook County sheriff’s boot camp program.
