The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, Florida, is monitoring a broad area of low pressure and a tropical wave in the Atlantic, identified as Invest 95L (AL95), which could develop into Tropical Storm Jerry.
As of Sunday, October 5, 2025, the system is several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, producing disorganized cloudiness and showers. Forecasters say environmental conditions are favorable for development, and a tropical depression could form by midweek, moving quickly across the central tropical Atlantic toward the Leeward Islands.
The formation chances for Invest 95L are currently:
-
Medium (50%) over the next 48 hours
-
High (70%) within the next seven days
Meanwhile, a weak area of low pressure over the north-central Gulf is generating showers and thunderstorms near Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with peak activity typically between August and October. If Invest 95L strengthens into a tropical storm, it will be named Jerry, the next name on the season’s list following Hurricane Imelda.
Residents in potentially affected areas are advised to monitor local forecasts and stay prepared for tropical storm activity. Daily tropical weather advisories will continue through the end of the season.
