WASHINGTON — Former President Bill Clinton appears in several newly released photos from files kept by late financier Jeffrey Epstein, including a widely noted image showing him nearly naked in a hot tub with an unidentified woman. The Justice Department released the heavily redacted files Friday in compliance with a congressional mandate.
Clinton, 79, is also pictured with Epstein on multiple trips, including vacations in the UK, Brunei, and Thailand, and attending the 2002 wedding of Moroccan King Mohammed VI. Other images show him with Epstein’s former associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking, as well as at social events with figures like Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger.
A former Clinton aide described the images as “his reckoning,” noting the public reaction to Clinton’s presence in the files and raising questions about his interactions with Epstein. The identities of the women in the photos are redacted, leaving many details unclear.
Clinton’s office has denied any wrongdoing and emphasized that he severed ties with Epstein before the financier’s crimes came to light, contrasting his actions with others who continued relationships with Epstein.
The Justice Department’s release drew criticism from lawmakers for the heavy redactions and incomplete disclosure, with some alleging the release did not fully comply with the Epstein Transparency Act.
These files add to the longstanding public scrutiny over Clinton’s past association with Epstein, though no evidence in the released documents suggests Clinton engaged in criminal activity.
