Central Illinois fire departments report record emergency calls in 2025

CENTRAL ILLINOIS — Several Central Illinois fire departments released their 2025 response statistics, with multiple agencies reporting record-setting call volumes.

Tolono Fire Protection District
The Tolono Fire Protection District handled 604 emergency calls in 2025, which officials said marked a record year for the department.

That total represented nearly a 10% increase compared to 2024. Officials also said the department offered more training opportunities throughout the year than ever before.

Savoy Fire Department
The Village of Savoy Fire Department responded to 1,434 calls for service in 2025, setting another record among Central Illinois departments.

The total surpassed the previous record set in 2024, when the department logged 1,180 calls. The increase means call volume rose by 21.5% year over year.

Eastern Prairie Fire Protection District
The Eastern Prairie Fire Protection District responded to 439 emergency calls in 2025, an increase from the year before.

In 2024, the department handled 398 calls for service, making last year’s total a 10.3% increase.

Catlin Fire Protection District
The Catlin Fire Protection District recorded its highest number of calls for service since at least 2020.

In 2025, the department responded to 443 calls. That figure marked the highest total in at least five years. Call volumes for the previous years were as follows:

2021: 349
2020: 406

Cornbelt Fire Protection District
The Cornbelt Fire Protection District responded to nearly 2,000 calls last year, reflecting a 70% increase compared to a decade ago.

In 2025, the department handled 1,729 calls for service. That total rose from 1,301 calls in 2020 and increased significantly from 1,040 calls in 2015. The 2025 total made Cornbelt the third-busiest fire department in Champaign County based on response numbers.

The department also reported that firefighters completed more than 6,000 hours of training during the year.

Cornbelt Fire officials added that the nature of their calls has shifted over the past decade, sharing the following breakdown:

2015: 74% EMS / 26% Fire
2025: 60% EMS / 40% Fire
