CHICAGO, IL – The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for much of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, in effect 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Friday. Clear skies and light winds are expected to push temperatures into the upper 20s to low 30s overnight.

Illinois: Cook, Lake, DuPage, Kane, DeKalb, LaSalle, Will, Kankakee, Grundy

Indiana: Lake, Porter, Newton, Jasper, Benton
This includes major metro areas such as Chicago, Rockford, Joliet, Aurora, and Gary.
Impacts:

Sub-freezing temperatures could kill outdoor plants and damage unprotected plumbing.

Residents are advised to bring in potted plants, cover garden vegetation, and wrap or drain outdoor water lines.
The coldest readings are expected in inland suburbs and rural areas, while locations near Lake Michigan may experience slightly milder temperatures. This freeze may mark the end of the growing season for many in the region.
