A former UPMC doctor was among six men arrested in Florida after a sting targeting child predators.
Mohamed Kamal Mesregah, 38, originally from Egypt, was arrested Nov. 13 during the operation, according to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier. Multiple agencies worked together, with undercover officers posing as underage teens online to identify potential predators.
Investigators said all six suspects, including Mesregah, engaged in sexually explicit conversations despite being told they were speaking with a 14-year-old girl. Each man allegedly arranged to meet the teen for sexual activity and was taken into custody upon arrival.
The six men charged are:
-
Isaias Chaman Coy, 40, Guatemala
-
David Desormeaux, 39, Canada
-
Miguel Angel, 34
-
Antonio Frederico Perez Rojas, 22, Guatemala
-
Mohamed Kamal Mesregah, 38, Egypt
-
Jeremiah Jamel Gillyard, 34
A UPMC spokesperson confirmed Mesregah worked as a research fellow at UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for four months and was terminated on Oct. 31. The spokesperson said he never had contact with patients and emphasized the hospital’s commitment to safety.
Uthmeier noted that several suspects are currently held on ICE detainers.
“These predators believed they could hide behind a screen to exploit our children—they were wrong,” Uthmeier said. “They will face prison before deportation. We will never stop protecting kids in Florida.”
These cases will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution, the State Attorney’s Office for the 19th Judicial Circuit, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida.
