Dallas–Fort Worth Weather Thursday: Cold Front Brings Temps Down Into the 30s

A cold front will pass over North Texas on Thursday, bringing breezy daytime conditions, a notable temperature decrease, and the possibility of near-freezing overnight lows by early Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters predict that temperatures in the Dallas-Fort Worth area will reach the mid-60s to low-70s Thursday ahead of the front, following a week of above-normal warmth and light rain. Winds are predicted to pick up throughout the day, with steady speeds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph behind the front.

By Thursday night, cooler air will settle in, with nighttime lows in the mid- to upper 30s across much of North Texas. A few regions, notably north and west of the Metroplex, may experience temperatures below 32 degrees by sunrise Friday, increasing concerns about patchy frost.

Light rain and drizzle will continue in eastern areas through Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. Fog is predicted to form near and east of Interstate 35 overnight, potentially decreasing visibility during Thursday morning’s commute.

Behind the front, winds will gradually lessen Thursday night, reducing to 5 to 10 mph as the sky clears. No winter precipitation is forecast, although the temperature difference will be evident when compared to recent days.

The National Weather Service urges residents to exercise caution during fog, secure loose outdoor items ahead of gusty weather, and plan for cooler overnight temperatures late Thursday into Friday morning.

Drivers going early Friday should keep an eye out for localized cold areas, particularly on bridges and elevated routes. Forecast updates will continue as the front passes throughout the region.
